FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HYGIENE AND SAFETY FAQs
WHAT HYGIENE STANDARDS AND SAFETY REGULATIONS DO YOU HAVE IN PLACE?
The health and safety of my clients is of my highest priority. My service hygiene and safety standards are based on guidance from federal, provincial, and municipal guidelines. All Studio surfaces and equipment including the massage table and chair, are disinfected with a Health Canada-approved disinfectant before and after each service. All my tools used during a service are thoroughly disinfected after each use and stored in a sanitary pouch. I use single-use, disposable applicators, gloves, gauze, nail files, buffers, mascara wands, waxing spatulas to avoid cross-contamination where necessary. All my non-disposable tools are mostly stainless steel and washed with warm soapy water and placed in a high-level disinfectant called CS20. I have taken an extra course to keep up to date on all these procedures called Clean Touch Certified by the International Dermal Institute.
WHEN SHOULD I NOT RECEIVE A SERVICE?
You should not receive a service if you show cold or flu-like symptoms, including cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, swollen lymph nodes, or a high temperature or if you have been exposed to someone with cold or flu-like symptoms in the last 14 days, any other contagious illness symptoms including skin rash or scabbing. Please inform me of any conditions, medications, allergies, contraindications, procedures or sensitivities that may affect the service or your body's reaction to the service, including Accutane or similar (in the past year), cracked or broken skin, open lesions, active sunburn on or near treatment areas, facial injections (in the past 10 days), pregnant or nursing, shellfish allergy (patch test recommended), autoimmune disease, Melanoma (or lesions suspected of malignancy).
Prior to your service you will complete a health history form that will have sections to list all of these.
Before your treatment begins we will always review the form together.

FACIAL FAQs
WHAT PRODUCT LINE DO YOU USE IN YOUR FACIAL SERVICES?
The brand I work with is called Dermalogica. I have worked with this line for years and seen the amazing results it can offer. They have options for every skin type and issue. Blending nature with science Dermalogica is cruelty-free, gluten-free, paraben-free, vegan/vegetarian, no artificial fragrances or colours.
WHAT FACIAL SHOULD I BOOK?
If you are not sure of what you should book thats ok! After reviewing your health history form a thorough consultation and skin analysis will be done. Here is where I will determine your skin type and if there are any concerns or areas we should focus on.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPERIENCE AFTER MY FACIAL?
You will leave your service feeling hydrated and relaxed and your skin will look healthy and glowing. If your appointment is later in the day I will prepare your skin for night and no cleansing is necessary before bed. If your service is completed early in the day SPF will be applied and cleansing before bed will be recommended.
SHOULD I HAVE A FACIAL BEFORE AN IMPORTANT EVENT?
Absolutely! Your skin will look healthy and glowing directly after your service and results will last for 3 days afterwards.
CAN I WEAR MAKEUP TO MY APPOINTMENT?
Of course! A double cleanse is always provided and will remove any dirt, sunscreens or makeup from your skin. It’s part of the ritual.
SHOULD I AVOID WEARING MAKEUP AFTER MY FACIAL?
No, it’s ok to apply makeup afterwards but your skin will look and feel really good so you probably wont feel the need to. If you have an event or just feel more comfortable wearing foundation feel free to apply as normal.
Just make sure to remove it at the end of the day!
SHOULD I HAVE A FACIAL IF I HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN?
Yes. There are many factors involved in sensitive skin and sometimes a facial service can help diagnosis what you can do at home to both offer relief for you current state as well as prevent your condition from worsening.
CAN I HAVE A FACIAL SERVICE IF I'M PREGNANT?
Yes. Facials during pregnancy are especially important during pregnancy for many reasons. Your skin can be reflective of the hormonal changes occurring within your body and having regular services can help alleviate some of the symptoms (i.e. breakout, increased redness and sensitivity) when your usual products may be off-limits. Facials can also be a wonderful relaxation tool which can keep your blood pressure at a healthy level.
MAY I HAVE A WAXING SERVICE DURING MY FACIAL?
Yes. This is done routinely and is no problem to accommodate.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A FACIAL?
With the right home care routine in place for best results a facial is recommended once a month as the life cycle of a cell is every 28-48 days approx. The next best option is the change of the seasons. A great time to repair, give the skin a boost and look over and tweak your home care routine to support you through the changes the weather can bring.
Some advanced facials are best in a series (every 2 weeks) for 4-6 treatments, then once a month for maintenance.
If you are a candidate for this I will always let you know my recommendations.
CAN I PURCHASE THESE PRODUCTS FROM YOU?
Yes! I always recommend a good solid home care routine. This is how to keep the results you feel after your facial for longer. I have an affiliate link on my website for you to purchase the full range of Dermalogica. After your facial an email will be sent to you with some product recommendations. If you prefer me to special order it for you I can do that as well it will just take 5-7 business days for delivery.
WAXING FAQs
HOW LONG DOES THE HAIR NEED TO BE TO BE WAXED?
In the area where you intend to wax, your hair needs to be at least ¼ inch. That’s about the length of a small grain of rice.
Generally, it takes about 2 weeks of not shaving (bikini area) for hair to grow to this length.
Hair that is shorter is not long enough to adhere to the wax and be pulled out.
If there’s any question, we can always try a test strip as some people can be waxed at less than ¼ inch.
DOES WAXING HURT?
As I use a technique that will minimize the pain (putting pressure on the area immediately after the strip has been pulled) there will be immediate pain but will subside quickly. You should not leave the appointment being sore or needing to ice down the area. Almost every single new client I have ever had has said that their waxing experience didn’t hurt nearly as much as they expected! Everyone’s pain tolerance is different so there’s no solid way to describe or rate the level of pain.
If you have been waxing for a while it becomes more tolerable as the hairs become more soft and fine.
IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO MAKE IT HURT LESS?
Some clients find that taking an ibuprofen before their treatment helps a little. Also, allowing the hair to grow a little longer than the required ¼ inch can help a little as the hair will soften as it gets longer. Once you’ve begun waxing, the one thing you can do to reduce the pain is to STAY ON SCHEDULE with your appointments.
AFTER I BEGIN WAXING DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO WAX?
No but it is going to be more effective to keep on schedule with your waxing. When you begin to ONLY wax an area, as opposed to jumping back and forth from waxing to shaving, each time you wax becomes less and less painful. Your hair becomes weaker and usually begins to grow less.
DO I NEED TO TRIM THE HAIR?
No. I have trimmers to use if necessary.
HOW LONG DOES WAXING LAST?
This is a tricky question to answer as everyone is a little different. In the beginning, you may experience more growth and random hairs popping up in the 1-2 weeks after your appointment than you would after waxing for a few months. Once you have been waxing for 3-6 months, you experience around 2 weeks free of hair with 1-2 weeks of some random hairs beginning to pop up and then proceeding to reach ¼ inch (bikini area). Most people are ready to wax again at about 4-6 weeks. It depends how long you have been waxing, how many active hair follicles you have, your after care, whether or not you’re shaving in between, the texture of your hair and how fast it grows, etc.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO TO PREPARE?
Besides making sure the hair is at least ¼ inch, wear loose fitting clothes to the appointment. You don’t want to leave in anything tight or synthetic. For Brazilian clients, if you know you are sensitive, you can even bring a pair of clean, cotton underwear to put on afterwards. Also try to exfoliate and moisturize the area you intend to wax as soon as you decide to have the service performed. Exfoliation should be performed 2-3 times a week and you should try to moisturize at least every day or two. This will ensure there are no hairs just under the skin (common with shavers) that we won’t be able to remove. Please review my aftercare instructions to make sure you do not have any inappropriate activities scheduled for the next 24-48 hours such as gym, tanning, saunas etc. For any facial waxing please avoid the use of any retinol, prescription acne topicals for 2 weeks prior to the service.
AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
Here are some guidelines for you to follow in order to avoid ingrowns, infection, discomfort etc.
Keep the waxed area clean for the next 24-48 hours and try to avoid tight, restrictive clothing.
Clean, breathable cotton garments are best (or none at all if possible).
If you are prone to infection and ingrowns, you may even want to bring a fresh garment with you to your service to wear immediately afterwards.
Avoid spandex, lace, nylon etc. The more you can avoid these types of clothing in general, even after the first 48 hours, the better.Avoid hot baths, showers, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, gym/exercise, sunbathing or sun beds for the next 24-48 hours.
A lukewarm shower is better than a bath as any dirt, product etc. is immediately rinsed off.
Activities that will cause you to sweat a lot are not advised as bacteria, oils, runoff product, dirt etc. will interfere with your newly waxed/exfoliated area and increase the chance of irritation and infection.
Sun/tanning is not advised as your waxed skin is FAR more susceptible to burning.Avoid wearing perfume, body spray, makeup, deodorant etc. on any waxed area for at least 24 hours.
These products can cause stinging, infection, pustules, irritation, etc.
It’s actually best to not use deodorant with antiperspirant (Allum) in it at all as it’s a carcinogen- same goes for any type of body powder/product containing talc. I recommend removing those from your skincare lineup all together. Also in the first 2 days, please try to avoid touching the area- especially with dirty hands.
Sexual contact is not recommended in the first day or so either as many people find the friction to be an irritant.
You are also more susceptible to STDs as waxing causes bleeding in some cases or tiny, invisible tears in the skin. After the first 24-48 hours, you must begin some type of exfoliation routine.
You will need to gently exfoliate the area 2-3 times a week.
Exfoliating gloves, dry brushing or body scrubs are good options. I also strongly advised that you moisturize the area with an oil or soothing body lotion. Properly exfoliating and moisturizing your skin will not only improve the tone/texture and prevent ingrown hairs, it also keeps your skin in prime condition to be waxed and gives you better results the next time you come in.
Properly cared for skin results in less pain, hair breakage, bumps, ingrown hairs and irritation!
If this is your first wax, please be advised that you may see growth within the first few days. It takes a good 3-4 sessions to start seeing optimal results.
If you have ANY questions or concerns, please feel free to send me a text or email.
I will do my best to get back to you ASAP. I am always available to you for guidance, advice and instruction.
